Mystery Image Drawing

Here's the plan: Each person gets a piece of the image, draws it and we assemble it to make a HUUUUGE image!!! Cool!?

I'd like to have you guys appear in the image too...... thinking we would go outside and reshoot the image during class.

Here's a sample of what I mean.....

Each person gets a piece like this.....

Creating Brushes in Photoshop

Create 5 brushes to use in the next drawing........

You could draw your own patterns for the brushes OR you can select parts of images and drawings.

I created one from Durer's prints, because they had wonderful patterns.....

Here is a sample and the link to more...  https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/user-gallery/1gLyeuWdTo_pLw?projectId=art-project&position=0%3A1

To make brushes in Photoshop, follow these steps:

Create a pattern or place an image into a Photoshop layer

Select what you want to turn into a brush....

Choose the "Define brush preset" command...

NAME IT, TOO

*BONUS, use filters on the pattern or image before making a brush to add to the effect.

POST examples of your brushes, and what they came from to your blog..

Loop Drawing!

Back to the paper loop drawing.....

Use brushes and values to draw the loop- with these new requirements

PLACE your loop on the page so it touches three sides to create shapes of POSITIVE and NEGATIVE SPACE.

Use the VIEWFINDER to help plan how the loop fits on the page.

• Use Soft and Sharp EDGES to make DEPTH.

Posting your Neg Space Drawing

Post images of the completed drawing to your blog.... ALSO,

• Post a screenshot of the layers palette to show your use of masks.

• Explain what makes your drawing CREATIVE. Was it your use of filters, layer masks, brushes, images or something else? Write at least four sentences explaining it.

Like this drawing has.....

STEP 2

Make the Negative Space interesting, by adding visual texture, using selections and layer masks...

The layer mask command is here:

Layer mask looks like this

Remember to turn off the chain to be able to move the image seperate from the mask.

Also, explore the FILTERS to see more interesting effects,

NEGATIVE SPACE (the background)

You need a viewfinder like this, to help organize the objects on the page.

COLOR and GESTURE

Build on these gesture drawing skills and add COLOR to the mix!

Create 3 Gesture Drawings of hands holding objects....

• Use Cold colors to show the Form

• Use Hot colors to show where the GESTURE or FORCE is in the subject......

Use the Swatches in Photoshop to quickly choose colors..

Notice that the top sample square (called the "foreground color") of color on your tool bar is the the color used by the brush.... click the double arrow to swap the color samples..... or use the "X" key.

What are hot and cold colors? Please copy a sample of a color wheel to your blog as a reference.... here's some you might use

Here is a sample drawing to show you what I mean....

MASS GESTURE DRAWING

ONE more step in developing skills to draw what you see....

Create 5 drawings of hands holding objects....

Scribble to describe their combined SHAPE....

You are looking for the SIZE, LOCATION and ALIGNMENT of the parts of the objects..

Sample drawings here:

Modeled Line Warm Ups!

Let's get back to drawing!

Create a new page in Photoshop, letter size, 300dpi

Use the brush tool

Set the "FLOW" to 16 or less, so you can build up to the blacks.

Create 5 drawings of objects, using a MODELED LINE technique.

That means, describe the FORM of your object using a web of contour lines-

The lines should go all over the form to describe it...

DARK LINES = FAR AWAY part of the form
LIGHT LINES = CLOSE UP part of the form.

Here's a sample drawing....

When you finish the drawings- please post them to your blog.
