FOLIO WORK, values for form
After working with LINE to show the shape and surface of objects, let's get into VALUE to describe form and light.
First, practice creating a range of values using drawing tools.....
Create an 8 box value scale, with blocks for white, black and six values.....
Second, use those values in a drawing of a twisted paper form... you can build one in class using scrap white paper, a cardboard "base" and some elmer's glue.
The drawing uses VALUES only, no outlines should be visible in the completed piece.
Work with graphite drawing tools on white paper in the folio.... here's a sample drawing from http://s4.photobucket.com/user/anwnn/media/artwork/DIIRibbin.jpg.html

PRINTING
Before you decide you are completely done, PRINT IT. Then you can check for big and small mistakes yo might not see on the computer screen.
Then, go fix them......
Then come back for the final print...
Here are the controls for printing in Photoshop.....
FIRST, flatten the layers to reduce the file size and increase the print speed..... "save as" the flattened file as a different name, so you also have the file with layers as a back up.
Here is a picture of the flatten command...
SECOND, use dropbox to send the file to the teacher's imac.... print from there.
THIRD, check that the print control settings are correct for the printer, color paper size and scaling of your work.... then print...
Here is a copy of the print control pannel...

FOLIO Homework
Here is the first homework assignment for your new Folios (sketchbooks)....
These drawings are a way to practice using drawing to record your "looking" at an object. It also helps to build a connection between artist and subject. Most importantly, it builds the control and skill of drawing from observation.
The drawings are due Friday, September 6th
Here is the handout:
Here are some samples of "Single Line drawings"
These are cross contour line drawings (some are from Deviantart @ http://xadrea.deviantart.com/art/Cross-Contour-Hand-Study-1-29686363)
These are Contour line drawings,
where the student drew lines they saw in the hands... or foot ;-)
